What's the Story of Balamory?

Isle of Mull - Tobermory

Situated on the Isle of Mull lays the famous town Tobermory, or likely mistaken for 'Balamory' due to the popular childrens tv show we all happened to love. I watched this as a child at nursery and fell in love with it, so it was a surreal experience visiting here years later. The people here were beyond lovely and welcoming and introduced me to the local pub called 'Mishnish' (the yellow house you can see in the picture above). This pub offered fresh sea food options along with your classic pub food. The vibe was overall so cosy with multiple fireplaces and music. It also happened to be an old firm day the day I visited and as you can imagine, the pub was bouncing, making the day a whole lot more fun.

There are also multiple boat rides available to see the seals, dolphins and beautiful beaches and coasts. I personally did not have time to visit these, but locals raved about these trips saying they are worth while!

Mull Aquarium

If you are looking to have a unique experience with sea life creatures, the mull aquarium is the place for you! Before visiting here, I had never touched any type of sea life, but here I got to hold multiple! As seen below:

What I absolutely adore about this place, is how the creatures are treated. This isn't your typical sea life where animals are being cruelly kept from their natural habitat, instead these creatures are caught for a short period of time and then released back into the ocean. I love this concept as it meant the creatures weren't being exploited and were in great hands of professionals who had a true passion for their jobs! Overall a short, but fun experience I would recommend to anyone stopping by at Tobermory.

Oban - Seafood Hut (Green Shack)

I got a ferry to the Isle of Mull from Oban, where I bumped into the Green Shack. My colleagues at work hyped this place up so much before I even went so I had to try it! Even google reviews were 5/5 stars.

This sea food you were buying was completely raw and unseasoned, straight from the sea. I think I was expecting it to taste the same as it would be from a restaurant, but I was so very wrong... I got the large platter so I could give an honest review of everything, but I must say it is a no from me! I typically love sea food, especially being raised in a Polish household where fish is a huge element of our diet, even on Christmas, but this was honestly something else. Despite my opinion, I can now say I have tasted the freshest sea food you can get, raw, which is an experience in itself!

Side note: I didn't even know how to de-shell langoustines, and ended up watching Gordon Ramsey videos trying to figure it out! Least it was something to laugh about :)

Overall Rating out of 10
