The Home of the Loch Ness monster
It wouldn't be a hidden gem blog if Loch Lomond wasn’t on the list - it's a national park after all. Filled with scenic views, plenty of adventures and sandy shores it’s a great family outing or adventure if you plan on tackling some activities such as water sports or bagging a Munro. Located around 30 minutes away from Glasgow city centre, Loch Lomond is accessible via train and bus services along with
Ben Lomond
If you’re after something more adventurous, look no further as you can scale a 974m hill or more commonly known as a ‘Munro’. Although this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, I do recommend it on a sunny day as the reward at the top is something out of this world. I recently attempted Ben Lomond as my first Munro and enjoyed the experience and challenge of pushing myself to new limits. Lucky for me, I got a crystal-clear view at the top allowing me to view my surroundings with such achievement. After such a challenge there is a local shop for refreshments or in this case a few… you can finish your day with a relaxing trip to the local beach, located just a few yards from start point of Ben Lomand. It’s the perfect end to the perfect day with a sandy beach and an endless view into Loch Lomond.
Luss
Luss is a great location if you’re after a nice relaxing day filled with ice cream on the harbour and a sandy beach to take in the local views. Filled with local cottages and a small pub for refreshments, the town makes you feel isolated from the rest of the world. Adding to this, on a hot summer day its almost impossible to get a parking space, so I recommend leaving early to ensure you get one. Remember to bring your swimming gear as there is plenty of swimming locations available, lots of them being very private if you go early enough! The harbour allows you - if brave enough - to jump off into the water and experience a bit of a splash!
