The Mountains of Glencoe

Glencoe

Glencoe is known for its vast land, overwhelming mountains and remarkable wildlife, making it a logical hidden gem within the UK. I first found this place on the way to Skye as a younger child and was always amused and astonished of the geographical location, it always makes me feel so insignificant as the lands stretch out and mountains tower up over me.

Glencoe Ski Centre

Surrounded by the natural beauty of Rannoch Moor, Scotland’s oldest ski centre is without a doubt a must visit if you’re into a good adrenaline rush or the trophy of tackling Scotland largest ski slope. Whether you’re experienced in the snow or still learning there is a variety of activities and even lessons to get involved with. I must say it’s a great family outing with lodges as accommodation at the top! The ski lift was a marvellous experience alone and one I won’t forget for a long time with vast scenic views. Believe it or not a lady got proposed to at the peak on a cold winters evening, I can’t imagine she was pleased considering she was dressed in snow gear with a helmet on. Still unsure if she said yes to this day. One of the many mysteries up the Ski resort I guess!

Dining – Kings House Hotel

Located in the heart of Glencoe, this luxury hotel offers great food at a good price, surprisingly considering its location. I mean I would probably charge more than £15 for a venison burger, but anyways I can’t complain - it’s a must. The staff and ambience of the hotel was extremely positive and welcoming after what I though was an exhausting day of Skiing the hills. The open planned restaurant allows you to eat quality food while gazing at the surroundings of Glencoe, or alternatively the hill you just tackled. You will experience wildlife such as Deers walking past the window minding their own business as you ironically eat…. Well the animal if you picked what I did on that day! It was great to see others enjoying the views rather than being indulged into the mobile phones.
